Condemned & Loved, John 3:16-21
Intro- The Mission of the Son.
- What is God’s Mission?
- Should our mission, our purpose be God’s mission and purpose?
- What was the purpose of God sending his son?
- • Did not the Son of God come to seek and save the lost?
- • Are you lost? My story / Like Adam & Eve, shame, guilt, etc.
- • Read John 3:16, it is the greatest story ever told!
- • Did not the Son of God come to seek and save the lost?
Is this not the greatest story? Our mission is to proclaim it! Look to it for Re-creation, real heart change (Last week), and then tell others about it! This is our Mission!
Main Point- Condemned & Loved with Nothing to Hide
- #1. Condemned, used 4x in our text this morning.
- vs. 17, vs 18 2x, vs. 19 – “Judgement” (same word)
- Keeps us from Mission is a misconception of Judgement.
- Our judgement should be God’s judgement. Not final, but in determining what is right and wrong, we have the scriptures.
- God is the standard. There is nothing else.
- The fall was man deciding on his own what is right or wrong. This caused the need for us to be re-created, redeemed, saved and restored.
- Therefore we realign ourselves and submit to God’s standard of what is right or wrong for ourselves and others. “Hey, that’s wrong.”
- Recoiled to not judging at all based on the philosophy of humanism. Since humans are the ultimate authority of morality, therefore if I attempt to judge another for the wrong they do, I am saying that they are not the ultimate authority, I am. Sounds bad, so we don’t judge.
- When we do usually someone says “Judge not”. They are usually telling you not to judge them which is a judgement in itself.
- “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” Matthew 7:1–3
- the other side is the judgement of Christians has done much damage to our mission & witness. What do I mean?
- Because we judge based on God’s righteous judgement but don’t follow it up the way God follows it up. “We don’t notice the log”.
- We may not currently have a log in our eye but we would do well to remember we did at one time.
- Total depravity. Condition before salvation. We were condemned
- If we remember that we too were Lost and condemned.
- You see, we judge, but we love anyway!
- Condemned & Loved with Nothing to Hide
- If we remember that we too were Lost and condemned.
#2. Loved
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:16–19
- Redeemed Marriage, Re-creation, Leifs are replaced with the blood of Jesus. Condemnation is replaced with love. Which is why…
#3. Nothing to hide
- We are free. We can share our lives because we are loved.
- God Condemned you, but loves you anyway.
- Wait, there is no condemnation in Christ!
- Because our judgement was put on another.
- Free to love others
