    • READ SCRIPTURE

#1. Is humanity created to worship?

  • Westminster Catechism; written by theologians in the mid 1600’s to bring unity to the church, they sought to ask and answer questions that bring a holistic view of scripture.
    • Q. 1. What is the chief purpose for which man is made?
      • The chief purpose for which man is made is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.
    • Q. 2. What rule has God given to direct us how to glorify and enjoy him?
      • The Word of God, which consists of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, is the only rule to direct us how to glorify and enjoy him.

#2. What is Glory?

  • New Testament- Doxa: to speak of or the study of Glory
    • Doxa: Glory, honor, praise. Strongs
  • Glory in OT.
    • Kabod: Glory, honor, splendor, riches. Strongs
  • Glory & splendor:
    • Light, Moses’ face shone with the glory of the LORD.
    • And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.   Luke 2:8–9
  • Weight
    • As soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell over backward from his seat by the side of the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for the man was old and heavy. 1 Samuel 4:18
    • Figuratively
      • let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it,and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Selah Psalm 7:5
      • Seeing Jennifer Gray, star of dirty dancing.
  • Honor
    • So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  1 Corinthians 10:31
  • Riches (2 Chronicles 32, it says that King Hezikiah riches and glory, gold)
    • The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1
  • Creation points to the glory. All of creation, materials things point to the GLORY OF GOD.

#3. What does this mean for us?

  • Glory? Light, weight, honor, riches
    • for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23
  • It’s not just a moral code we have fallen short of. We, as his creation, are meant to be arrows pointing to the glory of God.
    • Imago Dei- Created in his image. The crown of his creation.
    • “We were meant to live for so much more, have we lost ourselves?” Switchfoot
  • Read Ephesians 2:1-3
    • We once walked in darkness. The Kabod, the Doxa, the glory of God, we have darkened. We no longer point to him with our lives, we have not given him honor, acknowledged his presence, and as his creation, pointed, given glory and praise to ourselves or other things.
  • Read 2:4-5   BUT GOD (repeat, have everyone say it)

Exposit text as PRAISE- Ephesians 1:3-14

  • And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.  2 Corinthians 3:18

We restore worship in our church, in our city, and our world by giving God glory in all that we do!

  • Lead into communion.

Benediction- Who alone does wondrous things.  Blessed be his glorious name forever; May the whole earth be filled with his glory!  Amen and Amen!   Psalm 72:18–19
