Give Thanks

Please turn to 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, page 988 in the pew bibles

  1. Rejoice
  2. Pray
  3. Give Thanks
    1. Always
    2. Without ceasing
    3. In all circumstances
  • for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
  1. Rejoice because you are forgiven

just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works: “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.” Romans 4:6–8

  • 1a. Always because God is faithful

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:23–24

  • 2. Pray because you have been redeemed

to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. Galatians 4:5

  • 2a. Without Ceasing because God is relational

And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God. Galatians 4:5–7

3. Give Thanks because you are loved

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38–39

3a. In all circumstances because God is good

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

  1. Rejoice
  2. Pray
  3. Give Thanks

Because we are forgiven, redeemed and loved

  • a. Always
  • b. Without ceasing
  • c. In all circumstances

Because God is faithful, relational, and good

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
