  • MISSION: Sent to Speak and Respond to God’s Work of Redemption.
  • “Incomplete Works or Complete Faith”

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’  Matthew 7:21–23

Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”  John 6:28–29

  • What does it mean to be known by God?
    • Complete Faith —> GOSPEL
  • Context (Vs. 8-10)
    • vs. 9  Worked early morning, everyone was off between 11am-4pm, then back to work.
    • Most scholars believe Paul worked from 7am-11am, rented the Hall of Tyrannus, taught and ministered for until 4pm and then went back to work until 9:30pm.
    • In Acts 20:34 Paul says, “these hands ministered to my necessities”
    • So as to not stumble those he was preaching to.  The mystic was $
  • Paul Lectured, taught and proclaimed “5 hrs a day, six days a week, 52 weeks a year for 2 years. Thats 3,120 hrs of lecturing”  Kent Hughes
  • READ VS. 10
    • Hughes goes on to say, “during this time the 7 churches in Revelation as well as many others, came into being.”
    1. God is at work to make himself known (vs. 11-12)
      1. What makes it “extraordinary” is God is doing it
        1. Today, what makes it NOT extraordinary, God’s not doing it.
        2. How do you know?
          1. Does it make a big deal out of the person or God?
          2. Is there “selfish gain”?
        3. Just because people “drop” the name Jesus doesn’t mean it’s Christian
          1. We see the same thing with the sons of Sceva. They are “un-known”
    2. Are you Un-known? (13-16)
      1. Know ‘about’ Jesus
      2. Prayers
        1. Common grace / special grace
      3. By faith in the GOSPEL. Do you “know” and believe the Gospel?
    3. True Faith is at work to make God known (17-19)
      1. Those who truly ‘know’ Jesus REPENT
      2. True faith produces obedience to Jesus as LORD

BE OPEN TO THE SPIRIT FOR A CALL TO REPENTANCE

    1. We make God known (vs. 20)
      1. Lead into Communion

Benediction.

May you see how God is making himself known through your faith to the glory of God and our joy!
