Respond to God’s Grace

#1. Joyfully Acts 13:52

  • “Joy is the outward expression of the rhythms of grace…” Lloyd Ogilvie
  • Jesus being grace and truth personified, it should be no surprise that from beginning to end, Jesus is joy!
    • At his birth…
  • And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:10
    • In his life…
  • These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.  John 15:11
  • So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. John 16:22
    • In his prayers…
  • But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.  John 17:13
    • On his Mission…
  • Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:8–10
  • “To know that we have enabled people to live abundantly now, and triumphantly forever, is joy that no frustration or circumstances can diminish.  Joy is not only an outer expression of the inner work of grace in our own heart; it’s the expression of delight over being part of the transformation of the world… To miss that joy is to miss everything”  Lloyd Ogilvie

#2. Respond to God’s Grace Boldly vs. 1-7,

  • Is it ok to boldly speak your mind about Christ?
    • Poison- Truth is the antidote, the Gospel.
    • Jesus himself embodies truth
  • Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.  1 Timothy 4:1
  • For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:3–5
  • that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth /  in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:14–16

#3. Respond to God’s Grace Humbly vs. 8-20

  • They were not looking for God, they were looking to not be cursed again.
    • Read vs. 14-15- “Just a man with a message” Same position
  • Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” 1 Peter 5:5
  • Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Philippians 2:3
  • Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:12
  • “It has not been made clear that it is not sin that humbles us most, but grace.” Andrew Murray
