- God’s Sovereignty: God is in control.
- READ vs. 1-2
- God created & currently sustains our world and everything in it.
- Speaking of Jesus Colossians 1:16–17 says
- For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:16–17
- John 1:4, “in him was life, and the life was the light of men”
- John 1:9, “the true light, which gives light to everyone”
- This amazing truth is NOT canceled.
- Even when what Pres. Trump refers to a invisible enemy
- “what if I get the virus”, What if…
- Even when what Pres. Trump refers to a invisible enemy
- #1. Jesus speaks directly to the anxiousness that comes with that question.
- “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34
- Jesus hinges this statement on the sovereignty of God.
- Read Mat. 6:25 (toilet paper and hand sanitizer, liquid gold) vs. 26-27 /32b-34
- One thing to know God is sovereign, but to know he’s on your side too, that changes everything.
- 2 Kings 6:15–17, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” He said, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” So the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (ESV)
- Not only is God in control, but he’s for you, This truth is NOT canceled.
- God is also with us.
- Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5–6
God is in control, he is for you, he is with you.
- How does that change things?
- I want you to imagine if God is sitting next to you.
- 2 chairs, God is with me
- What does this do? It cancels anxieties & fears, Replaces them with faith and freedom
- I want you to imagine if God is sitting next to you.
- Facing the plague in the 1500’s Martin Luther says this…
- “I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine, and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance infect and pollute others, and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me, however, I shall not avoid place or person, but will go freely.” Martin Luther
- Psalm 24:7-10
- Lift up your heads
- Message, “Wake up, you sleepyhead city! Wake up, you sleepyhead people!”
- Lift up your heads
